The point of a watermark is that the document cannot be passed off as something it is not — a quote as an invoice, a draft as a signed copy. Most free tools online will do it and then stamp their own logo in the corner, which defeats the exercise. This one adds your text and nothing else.

How it works

    Open PDF Studio and choose Add Watermark

    Drop the file straight onto the page. It is read by the browser you are already looking at, not sent anywhere.

    Type the words and place them

    DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, COPY, your business name, a date — whatever the document needs. Choose where it sits on the page and how heavy it looks, so it reads as a mark without burying the text underneath.

    Save it

    Every page is stamped and the new PDF downloads to your device. Nothing was uploaded, so there is nothing sitting on someone else's server to delete afterwards.

Questions

Can the watermark be removed by whoever receives it?
A determined person with the right software can strip a text watermark from any PDF, and that is true of every tool that adds one. It marks a document clearly for honest readers; it is not a security control. If the information itself must not be read, use Redact PDF, which destroys the text rather than covering it.
Will it cover up the text underneath?
You choose how heavy it sits. A light diagonal mark across the page reads as a watermark and still leaves the document readable, which is the usual setting.
Is it free, and does it add its own branding?
Free, no account, and no branding of ours anywhere on the result. It runs in your browser. The separate PDF editor is the only part of the Studio that charges, and it says so before it runs.
