Cost BuilderFree

Cost a recipe or a product from the ingredients up

Most costing goes wrong in the same place: the price on the invoice is for a 5kg bag and the recipe uses 180g. Cost Builder does that arithmetic every time, so the margin you are looking at is the real one.

Free on every plan, including the free account. Prices in AUD.

How it works

  1. 1

    List what goes in

Each ingredient or part, with what the pack costs and how much is in the pack.

  2. 2

    Say how much you use

The per-unit cost is worked out from the pack price, so 180g of a 5kg bag is 180g of a 5kg bag.

  3. 3

    Set your sell price

The margin appears next to it, in money and as a percentage. No hunting for it.

  4. 4

    Take the report

A clean PDF you can hand to a partner, a bookkeeper or an accountant — or keep for the next time prices move.

Questions

Is it really free?
It is free on every plan, including the free account — not a trial. You need an account so your work saves, and that is all.
Can I change a costing after I save it?
Yes. Open it again and edit it — you are not starting from scratch when a price changes.
Does it handle products that aren't food?
Yes. Nothing in it is food-specific — it is parts, pack sizes and amounts. Food is just where the maths bites hardest.
